Proton VPN Review (2026) — Is It the Best Privacy VPN?

Proton VPN is the best VPN for privacy purists — but it's not for everyone. If your top priority is trust and transparency, no other provider comes close. Swiss jurisdiction, fully open-source apps, Secure Core architecture, and a genuine free tier set Proton apart. But it's slower than NordVPN, more expensive than Surfshark, and streaming support — while improved — isn't as consistent.

Proton VPN is headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland and incorporated under Swiss law. This matters because:
